About a month ago while walking my dogs, I noticed a squirrel running across a yard. My dogs caught sight of the squirrel as well and pulled aggressively to get it. At that moment, a red-tailed hawk swooped down after the squirrel, which noticed the dogs and quickly changed its course and darted up a utility pole. This caused the hawk to miss the squirrel and glide a mere feet in front of me before sweeping back into the sky to disappear.
“Lucky squirrel”, I thought then quickly reminded myself that I was the same! This hawk was enormous and close enough I could hear the rustling of its feathers. This didn’t just feel like a sign, I knew my Guides were with me at that moment. This felt like an affirmation of self-care. I was out walking my dogs, the weather was amazing and it was a low-pain day for me. Wins all around.
Other Signs
How often do we notice things when they aren’t as “in your face” as the hawk? It’s not just noticing numbers around us but less subtle signs indicating that our Guides are with us. We may be used to seeing 11:11 or 3:33 when we glance at our watch. Seeing numbers is something I’m almost immune to. I see 11:11 or 1:11 so regularly that I simply smile with acknowledgement and move on with my task.
Are there messages in the little things like seeing a heart-shaped leaf on the sidewalk or a ladybug on a stem in the garden? I’m working on not only noting them but acknowledging what they mean. Now, when I see number patterns, I check in with myself to see how I’m feeling. To make sure I’m drinking enough water to making sure I stretch every hour to keep my pain in check.
Meditation for awareness
Regular meditation has opened my awareness to the little signs and has made me more open in general. This makes it easier for me to spot the small signs. Maybe I’m priming my brain to see them more regularly but if it leads to a mentality of gratitude and kindness then I’m not sure that’s a bad thing.
It’s when I get lost in the magnitude of life and the reality of the division we are facing as a country that I forget to notice the signs. Our angels, celestial bodyguards and spiritual guides cannot help us unless we ask for it and I can’t help but think these little signs are an attempt to remind us they are here.
